Enfield is an outer London borough with big ambitions and the Council has a welcoming, collaborative culture. We’ve got bold plans to improve the borough and we are looking for a leader to shape our planning service, economic development activity and cultural services to drive investment and activity in the borough.
The Council is directly delivering an ambitious housebuilding programme, significant commercial property development, and Meridian Water, one of the UK’s largest regeneration projects.
It will be your responsibility to match this political ambition and council-led delivery with community and private sector investment in the borough. You will knit together public and private investment in our major placemaking areas, folding in the transport, cultural and economic interventions which support liveable and healthy places.
You will shape our broad planning service, improving customer service while leading transformative policy making and driving good quality and sustainable design in applications. Our economic development, town centre teams, and cultural services are delivering exciting local projects and you will align private investment to collectively deliver better outcomes.

- Be bold. You will be leading a Local Plan which proposes London’s largest greenbelt de-designation in recent memory, to address acute housing needs.
- Show you care. You will drive investment and development to lift some of London’s poorest neighbourhoods out of deprivation - through better housing, arts and culture, sports investment, and training and skills programmes delivered through development and planning obligations.
- Make a difference. You will improve the service offered to residents and major developers alike to be one of the best planning authorities in London, positively and proactively engaging with communities and stakeholders to enhance places and enable good growth.
